PRESS PHOTOGRAPHY

The photograph of the Engel Choir at the bottom of this article by I. Cymbalist about the teaching of nature in Tarbut schools appears to be a traditional publicity shot, and would have almost certainly been produced at a (Jewish) photography studio in Kaunas, where the choir was from. Despite the fact that the so-called 'golden age of photojournalism' began at around the same time that the photograph was taken, it doesn't appear to have ever reached the Lithuanian Jewish population, where press photography appears to have remained rather conservative.
